Purpose-Built for Railway Possession Windows

Keeping Sydney's Railways Moving

Rapid Mobilisation When Every Minute Counts

Right to the Track, Exactly When Needed
Our deep knowledge of railway environments allows us to deliver critical services where precision and reliability make the difference between success and costly delays.

Our high-rail trucks operate on both road and rail, delivering materials and equipment directly to your worksite-no matter how remote—reducing handling time and maximising productivity during critical possession windows.

Our innovative rail assistance vehicles combine water tanks, welding equipment storage, and ballast transport capabilities in a single unit—reducing the number of vehicles on site and improving safety in confined railway corridors.

Our dump trucks with balloon tyres distribute weight properly on railway ballast, preventing track damage while efficiently transporting materials—even in areas with limited access.

Our crane trucks are configured specifically for railway applications, with the reach and capacity to position heavy components exactly where needed—reducing manual handling and improving safety.

Combining rail mobility with powerful lifting capacity, our high-rail crane trucks eliminate the need for separate access and lifting equipment—streamlining your operation and reducing track occupation time.

Our elevated work platforms are designed specifically for the railway environment, with features addressing electrical safety and track stability concerns for overhead line equipment maintenance.

Modified for railway applications, our cherry pickers provide flexible access solutions with safety features specifically designed for the hazards of railway environments. Next Generation Contractors was established over 25 years ago and evolved into its current identity around a decade ago when leadership transitioned to the founding family’s next generation. This shift reflects both our heritage and our forward-thinking approach.
Today, we operate more than 30 pieces of specialised plant and employ over 50 staff across New South Wales. Our core services focus on specialised lifting, transport, and logistics, purpose-built for railway infrastructure projects.
What truly sets us apart is our operators. They are railway specialists who instinctively understand the unique requirements, compliance obligations, and constraints of working within rail corridors. For them, railway expertise runs deep. It is not just what we do, it is who we are.

Railway Infrastructure Specialists Who Deliver When It Matters Most
Our operators represent the next generation of railway specialists with expertise that runs deep. They instinctively understand railway corridor requirements, reducing your oversight burden while ensuring compliance with safety protocols—no constant supervision required.
When railways shut down for maintenance, every minute counts. We deliver without drama, without excuses – just results that keep your projects on track and help you avoid costly penalties. Our purpose-built equipment and experienced operators ensure critical deadlines are met consistently.
Safety isn’t a checkbox for us – it’s how we operate. Our team is trained, accredited, and backed by systems that keep people and projects protected throughout every railway task. In an environment where risks are significant, our comprehensive approach to safety protects both your team and your timeline.
Our specialised equipment and experienced operators have supported critical railway infrastructure projects across the Sydney Trains network. When track possession windows are tight and delays aren’t an option, our railway expertise makes all the difference.
Freight trains on the Main North Line between Sydney and Newcastle caused passenger service delays, with no adequate overtaking facilities between major centres on the Central Coast. Construct two new passing loops between Gosford and Narara stations to allow passenger
The critical Ulan Line in the Hunter Valley required comprehensive track renewal to maintain safe, reliable coal transportation from mines to the Port of Newcastle, essential for Australia’s coal export industry. Complete extensive re-railing and track reconditioning works across multiple
The Lidcombe to Granville rail corridor required infrastructure upgrades to improve network reliability and capacity, particularly for access to critical Auburn maintenance facilities. Upgrade junction infrastructure to enhance operational flexibility and reduce conflicts in the busy western Sydney rail network,
Sydney’s south-west growth corridor lacked adequate rail infrastructure to serve expanding residential areas, with residents facing lengthy travel times to the CBD and limited public transport options. Deliver an 11.4km twin-track railway with new stations to provide direct rail access
The Main North Line created a significant bottleneck where freight trains had to cross existing passenger tracks, causing delays and capacity constraints for both freight and passenger services. Construct a rail underpass to eliminate freight train conflicts with passenger services,

“NG Contractors’ high-rail trucks were essential for our recent track renewal project. Their operators’ railway knowledge was evident from day one, allowing us to complete the work within our critical possession window. When every minute counted, they delivered.”
“After experiencing costly delays with other providers who didn’t understand railway environments, switching to NG Contractors was transformative. Their purpose-built equipment and railway-trained operators made a significant difference to our project efficiency and safety compliance.”
“Their rail assistance vehicles combined multiple functions we previously needed separate contractors for. This simplified our site coordination and reduced safety risks in the confined railway corridor. Their operators’ knowledge of railway protocols meant I could focus on other aspects of the project.”

Yes, we maintain sufficient backup equipment for critical components of our fleet. In railway work, where delays can cost millions in penalties, this redundancy is essential. Our equipment undergoes rigorous maintenance schedules to minimise the risk of breakdown, but should an issue occur, we can quickly deploy replacement equipment to ensure your project remains on schedule.
We select operators based on both technical skills and their understanding of railway environments. New team members typically have prior experience in either heavy machinery operation or railway work. Our training includes a comprehensive onboarding process covering railway safety protocols, equipment operation, and emergency procedures. We’re also planning to build a “dummy track” in our yard for more comprehensive operator training, allowing hands-on experience in a controlled environment.
Safety isn’t a checkbox for us – it’s how we operate. We maintain comprehensive safety systems specifically designed for railway environments, including detailed protocols for electrical safety, track protection, and emergency response. Our operators undergo regular refresher training, and we conduct thorough equipment inspections before every deployment. We stay current with Sydney Trains safety requirements through regular communication with safety officers and participation in industry safety forums.
We understand the critical nature of railway possession windows and can typically mobilise equipment within 48 hours for standard requirements. For emergency response situations, we maintain ready teams and equipment that can deploy much faster. During your initial consultation, we’ll provide specific timeframes based on your project location and equipment requirements.
We primarily service the Sydney metropolitan area and surrounding regions where Sydney Trains operates railway infrastructure. We operate from two locations: our main yard in Llandilo and a secondary yard in Telarah associated with the rail depot. For projects outside these areas, we can discuss mobilisation requirements and timelines during your initial consultation.
Our equipment is purpose-built for railway environments, with modifications specifically designed to address the unique challenges of rail corridors. For example, our high-rail trucks feature retractable train wheels allowing them to operate on both road and rail, while our specialised dump trucks use balloon tyres that distribute weight properly on railway ballast to prevent track damage. These railway-specific features enable more efficient operations during critical possession windows.
Unlike companies that “just throw anyone on” jobs, our operators undergo comprehensive railway-specific training, including track safety awareness, electrical hazards in rail corridors, and coordination with protection officers. We use a structured “buddy system” where new operators work alongside experienced team members for multiple shifts before operating independently. All operators maintain current rail corridor certifications and site-specific inductions.
